Sort the short and long vowel words
Vowels can make short and long sounds. Vowels usually make a short sound when they appear directly before a consonant, but there are some exceptions to this rule. Long vowels sound like the name of the letter, like the ee in feet or the o in go.

Sort the words into two groups: short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds. Repeat each word and isolate the vowel sound. Does it have a short or long vowel sound? How do you know? This activity has also been designed for handwriting practice.
