OVERVIEW

Syllables are like the 'beats' of spoken language. The number of syllables in a word is equal to the number of times you hear a vowel sound in the word.

Explain what syllables are and how to count them. Say the word aloud and then segment and count the syllables in the word. Pronounce each syllable separately and repeat all together. Sort the words by the number of syllables. This activity has also been designed for handwriting practice.
